Vehicles exempt from motorway vignette payment

Pursuant to Section 7(1) of Act No. 488/2013 Coll., the following vehicles and vehicle combinations are exempt from motorway vignette payment:

• Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic including budgetary organisations designated by the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic and the Police Force,
• Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic (hereinafter the "Ministry of Defence") including budgetary organisations under its competence designated by the Ministry of Defence,
• armed forces of the Slovak Republic and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation,
• armed forces or civilian components of a sending state for the purpose of performing official duties,
• basic rescue units of the integrated rescue system, voluntary fire brigades of municipalities, municipal police and the Slovak Red Cross,
• foreign rescue units participating at the request of state bodies of the Slovak Republic in rescue operations during extraordinary events or participating in civil protection preparedness on the territory of the Slovak Republic,
• another state participating in rescue operations during extraordinary events, humanitarian aid or participating in civil protection preparedness outside the territory of the Slovak Republic,
• operators of motorways and roads owned by the state except the concessionaire,
• Prison and Judicial Guard Corps,
• vehicles registered by a person who is a holder of a parking permit,
• vehicles whose operator is a person using the vehicle to provide a social service under a special regulation and does not provide the social service for profit and accounts for this vehicle under a special regulation,
• vehicles whose operator is a child social and legal protection and social curatorship facility under a special regulation,
• foreign nationals exempt under an international agreement subject to reciprocity,
• historic vehicles,
• Financial Administration,
• National Security Authority,
• Slovak Information Service.

Registration of exempt vehicles

Exemption from motorway vignette payment applies to vehicle operators under letters e) to g) and i) to n), only if these vehicles are registered in the system of the administrator of motorway vignette fee collection. If vehicles under paragraph 1 letters e) to g) and i) to n) are not registered with the administrator of motorway vignette fee collection, the vehicle operator and driver are subject to the payment obligation.

Vehicles or vehicle combinations exempt from motorway vignette payment under letters e) to g) and i) to n) shall be registered with the administrator of motorway vignette fee collection before starting to use designated motorway sections. Upon registration, the vehicle operator shall submit documents proving the identity of the vehicle operator and documents proving the reason for exemption.

If exemption of a vehicle or vehicle combination from motorway vignette payment is time-limited, the vehicle operator shall specify the period for which the exemption applies. A holder of a parking permit may have only one vehicle or vehicle combination exempt at the same time.
